Democracy Now: “We Will Never Concede to Bigotry”: Florida Organizers Sound the Alarm over Voting Discrepancies

NewFM Executive Director Andrea Mercado was interviewed by Democracy Now‘s Amy Goodman on Nov. 9th, discussing voting problems on Tuesday, including confusion over ballot design, problems with accessing polling sites, and navigating Florida’s voter ID law.

Mercado: Tuesday night was a—it was a hard night. It was a bitter pill to swallow. But, you know, I think, for us, we know that our movements will never concede to hate. We will never concede to homophobia. We will never concede to bigotry. And we will be here insisting that every vote is counted. There were hundreds of volunteers across the state yesterday making sure that people who had cast provisional ballots had done what they needed to do to make sure that their voice was heard. And we’ll continue to see everyone taking to the streets.
