Groups to Deliver 54,000 Petitions to State Attorney Demanding Justice for Charles Kinsey

On Tuesday Aug. 16, New Florida Majority and several local partners delivered 54,000 petitions to the Miami-Dade Office of the State Attorney to demand justice for Charles Kinsey.

Charles Kinsey, a therapist, was shot by police while trying to assist his autistic patient on July 18, 2016 in North Miami. The groups are asking that the North Miami Police officer who shot Kinsey, Jonathan Aledda, is held accountable for violating the police department’s use of force policy.

New Florida Majority started the petition on Aug. 1 calling on the state attorney to bring criminal charges against the officer.
