Protesters blocking downtown Orlando streets for immigration reform
Oct 29th, 2013 —
Immigration reform advocates are converging on downtown Orlando to send a message to House Speaker John Boehner as national immigration reform movement escalates pressure.
On Tuesday, a diverse group of immigration reform advocates will hold a major rally and march in Orlando to demand Speaker John Boehner and his Republican colleagues in the House, including Florida Representatives Daniel Webster (R), Dennis Ross (R) and Tom Rooney (R), a vote on immigration reform with a path to citizenship this year.
As advocates and communities escalate the pressure on Speaker Boehner and the House Republican leadership, many Floridians will converge Huey and Washington Streets demanding that Boehner stop delaying the vote and clear the path for immigration reform with a path to citizenship.
The action is the first of many across the country to demand that Republican leaders in the House stop ignoring the strong bipartisan support for citizenship in their chamber and call a vote on the issue.
Farm workers, DREAMers, undocumented families and union workers from diverse parts of Central Florida will be joined by at least one bus of community members from South Florida. The advocates will take the streets to make sure members of Congress heed their call: everyday that they don’t act to clear a path to citizenship, they are allowing deportations and the separation of families to happen every day.
